We had 149 consignors, 83 individual buyers and our largest one-day headcount ever at 818. We also had 35 degrees and rain most of the day. Unpleasant.
Not as many top end cows today. Overall the market was lower on most classes dairy and feeder cattle.
Top dairy cows 1600- 2150. 2150, 1950 Swiss, Jeff Hermansen, Cushing WI. 2000 Clair Weaver, Edgar. 2000,1900 Isaac Lamar Wenger, Colby. 1950, 1900 Harold Chapman, Denison IA. 36% dairy cows sold from 1000 to 1500. Blemished cows sharply discounted.
Good quality springing heifers 1100- 1575. Top 1775. Light test on opens. 70 to 90 cents a pound. Single birth Holstein heifer calves 25 to 55 per head. Dairy breeding bulls 800 – 1200. Beef bulls up to 1450. Holstein market bulls 70 – 76.
Holstein feeder steers 65- 1.10. Beef steers up to 1.40. Good Holstein bull calves 40 – 95 per head. Beef cross calves 125 – 220 per head, extreme top 270.
Sold 73 fat cattle on a strong market! 70% of Holstein steers 94 – 98 with a top of a 1.00. Choice beef steers 92 -97.
Sold 126 market cows. 30% sold 53 – 60. Top 68.50. 37% sold 46-52.
5 ewes 170 lbs @ $.55. 4 lambs 103 lbs @ $1.55 / lb. 830 lb boar @ .14.
Due to rain we had a shorter run of hay. Prices higher. First crop round bales 35 to 45 per bale. Second crop grass mix up to $90. Small squares 3rd crop grass/alfalfa $3 a bale. Semi load Canadian wheat straw $37.50/ bale. Round bales soybean stubble 20- 27.50.
